A forgotten garden method

One piece of copper can change your entire garden.

A gardening idea from the 1920s that most gardeners have never heard of.

Since the 1920s

The backstory

A method that almost disappeared.

In the 1920s, French inventor Justin Christofleau patented a copper antenna for gardens and wrote a popular book on his method. Growers of the era swore by it. As chemical fertilizers took over after the war, his work faded from view, and for decades almost nobody knew it existed.

The idea behind it

From the air, down to the roots.

Electroculture is built on a simple idea: the air around your garden carries a small natural electrical charge. Christofleau's antenna was designed around three steps.

  1. Collect

The spiral coil is designed to gather the natural charge in the air above your garden.

  2. Conduct

Copper is one of the best conductors there is, second only to silver.

  3. Ground

The stake guides that charge down into the soil around your plants' roots.

Gardeners use it alongside their usual routine and enjoy seeing what it does in their own beds.

The science that inspired it

Plants have their own electrical signals.

Around 1900, Indian scientist Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose showed that plants produce and respond to electrical signals. His research helped spark a wave of interest in plants and electricity, and many of the instruments he built are still preserved today.

Circa 1900

Sir J.C. Bose built instruments sensitive enough to record a plant's response to touch, light, and temperature.

A 100-year-old method, wound the way Christofleau wrote it, back in gardens like yours.

Common questions we hear
from customers

Will my plants really grow bigger?

The Nuteva copper antenna is a reusable gardening accessory inspired by traditional electroculture practices. Plant growth depends on factors such as soil, sunlight, watering, nutrients, plant variety, and environmental conditions.

Faster growth, stronger plants, or increased yields are not guaranteed, including within a 4–8 week period. Continue your usual gardening routine and essential plant care.

What does science say?

Nuteva's antenna is inspired by traditional electroculture gardening. Historical accounts and personal experiences are not scientific proof that copper antennas improve plant growth or increase crop yields.

Research has not established that this product reliably accelerates plant growth. Results may vary, and the antenna should not replace proper watering, soil care, sunlight, or plant nutrition.

How is yours different from the cheap ones?

Our antenna features a hand-wound copper spiral and a copper stake designed for placement in soil.

When comparing products, consider the stated materials, construction, dimensions, and intended use rather than price alone. Refer to the product specifications for additional details.

How many do I need?

As a placement guide, allow approximately one antenna per 10 square feet of planting space, or one for a medium or large pot.

Choose the quantity according to your container size and garden layout. This is a suggested arrangement, not a guarantee of coverage or plant growth results.

When should I plant them?

You can place the antenna when preparing your beds, planting seedlings, or during the growing season.

Insert the rod approximately 4 inches into the soil, keeping it clear of delicate roots. Leave the coil above the soil and continue your usual watering and gardening routine.

Can I use them indoors? In pots?

The antenna can be placed in indoor pots, outdoor containers, raised beds, and garden rows.

Use a container deep enough to hold the stake securely without damaging roots or the pot.

Will copper hurt my soil?

Suitability may vary depending on soil conditions, plant species, and the growing environment.

Avoid excessive placement and consult a qualified gardening professional if you have concerns about copper accumulation or sensitive plants.

How long do they last?

Nuteva copper antennas are designed for repeated seasonal use and require no batteries, charging, or refills.

Copper may naturally develop a darker patina when exposed to outdoor conditions. Product lifespan depends on handling, installation, and the environment.

Eligible Nuteva products are covered by our 365-day limited warranty against qualifying manufacturing defects. This warranty does not guarantee a specific product lifespan or plant growth result.

See our Return, Refund & Warranty Policy for the full warranty conditions.

What if I change my mind?

Nuteva offers a 30-day return window for eligible orders, starting from the date of delivery.

Separately, eligible products include a 365-day limited warranty covering qualifying manufacturing defects. The warranty is not a 365-day money-back guarantee.

For return eligibility, refund instructions, and warranty coverage, please read our Return, Refund & Warranty Policy .
